Type o Negative

Type O Negative is a heavy metal band from Brooklyn, New York City. Although commonly viewed as a gothic metal band, Type O has also incorporated elements of doom metal and thrash metal. Their dramatic lyrical emphasis on themes of romance, depression, and death has resulted in the nickname "The Drab Four" (in homage to The Beatles "Fab Four" moniker). The band went Platinum with 1993's Bloody Kisses, and has gained an enormous following with seven studio albums, two best-of compilations, and concert DVDs. Their most recent album is 2007's Dead Again.

Peter Steele, the lead singer for Type O Negative and a true icon, enigma, has reportedly died of heart failure at the age of 48. As of 4AM, fellow bandmate Kenny Hickey has confirmed initial rumors of his passing, despite a similar rumor in 2005, it appears the reports of his passing are true. His work with Type O Negative was groundbreaking and a large influence on other various genres of metal especially "doom". As the song goes, "Everything Dies" but know that the music lives on.

Steele’s friend Juliya Chernetsky from Fuse TV broke the news via her Twitter page.
“Peter Steele passed today. I loved my friend…our idol…my heart is with his band and family…” adding later that “he passed of heart failure”. This is not the first time that reports of Peter Steele’s death have surfaced. In 2005 there were rumors circulating that Steele had died.
This time around however, it appears that the 6′ 7″ rocker has indeed tasted death’s sweet embrace. As of 4AM, fellow bandmate Kenny Hickey has confirmed initial rumors of his passing. Keyboardist Josh Silver has confirmed to Blabbermouth.net that the Steele has indeed passed away.
