Janet Lim Napoles Surrenders - Pork Barrel Scam

MalacaƱang confirmed that Janet Napoles has surrendered after President Benigno Aquino III had put up a P10 million bounty for her arrest.

In an official statement, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Napoles surrendered to President Aquino at 9:37 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2013.

Aquino has turned the businesswoman over to the custody of interior and local government secretary Mar Roxas and Philippine National Police director-general Alan Purisima “for processing and booking.”

Atty. Lorna Kapunan, legal counsel of Napoles, told radio station DZMM that her client voluntarily surrendered to the president after the latter offered the reward money. Kapunan reportedly said that Reynald Lim, brother of Napoles, will follow suit.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Kapunan said her client trusted the president. The lawyer added they were assured that Napoles “will get due process of law.”

Napoles is “wanted on charges of serious illegal detention arising from the alleged kidnapping of Benhur Luy,” her relative and former employee, and the whistleblower of the controversial pork barrel fund misuse.
