Thessa Facebook Birthday Party in Germany

Birthday girl “Thessa” goes into hiding after 15,000 Facebook users turn up for her sweet 16 party. It happened in Germany, when a teenage girl forgot to mark her birthday invitation as private on Facebook and was forced to flee the venue of the party as more than 1,500 guests showed up and around 100 police officers, some on horses, were needed to keep the crowd under control.

The teenager had originally wanted to invite some of her friends to her home for the birthday celebrations and had thus posted her invitation on Facebook, but mistakenly she published it so that everyone on Facebook could view it.

A Hamburg police spokesman said 11 people had been arrested before the party was finally broken up at 1.55 am Saturday morning. One disappointed male, who wanted to give "Thessa" a birthday present, told Germany's daily Bild Zeitung that he would be back next year.

One officer sustained minor injuries, the spokesman added, and a handful of revelers were taken to a local hospital to be treated for alcohol poisoning.
