Smart Gilas Pilipinas Wins 3rd Place vs Chinese Taepei - JONES CUP 2011

Smart Gilas Pilipinas, the country's representative to the recently concluded Jones Cup 2011 at the Hsinjhuang stadium in New Taipei City, Taiwan, wins third place when they beat the host country Chinese Taipei, 82-72 on Sunday-August 14, 2011. 

This is Philippines third time to win third place in the same basketball tournament. The first one was in 2005, then in 2007 and this year with Smart Gilas Pilipinas.





Marcus Douthit delivered 28 points and 11 rebounds and Marcio Lassiter added 16 as the Philippine basketball team repeated over host Chinese Taipei, 82-72, to finish third in the nine-game tournament at the Hsinchuang Gymnasium.
Despite injuries and exhaustion, the Filipinos unloaded one final blast through an imposing performance in the lane anchored on the 6-foot-10 Douthit.
The Nationals also shut down shooters Hsin Chen-an and Chieh Lin-chih in a strong comeback from a 19-point semifinal defeat to Iran Saturday.
