The Philippine cinema’s Comedy King has passed away at the Intensive Care Unit of Makati Medical Center while being treated for pneumonia. Dolphy, the Comedy King, has been confirmed dead, 15 days before his 84th birthday.
Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Sr., (July 25, 1928 – July 10, 2012) known by his screen name Dolphy, has passed away around 8:34 p.m. today, July 10, Tuesday, at Makati Medical Center as confirmed by his partner Zsa Zsa Padilla on ABS-CBN News. The Comedy King reportedly died due to multiple organ failure.
Dolphy was admitted at the Makati Medical Center on June 16, 2012, after complaining of shortness of breath. He was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). He was showing signs of recovery eight days later, but was hospitalized again because of recurring pneumonia.
Dolphy was widely regarded as the Philippines’ “King of Comedy” for his comedy prowess embodied by his long roster of works on stage, radio, television and movies.
