Tourist Held Hostage in Philippine Bus

Tourist Held Hostage in Philippine Bus - An armed policeman who lost his job last year took a tourist bus hostage on Monday, setting off a daylong standoff that ended after police commandos stormed the bus.There were 15 hostages on the bus when police stormed it. Nine had been released earlier, including a mother and her three children, a man with diabetes, and two photographers, . Most of those on the bus were tourists.
At least 4 died  from the Tourist and 6 were taken to the hospital but 2 more died later.

The Hostage taker has been identified as former Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza, 55.According to newspaper reports from 2008, he was among five officers charged with robbery, extortion and grave threats after a Manila hotel chef filed a complaint alleging the policemen falsely accused him of using drugs to extort money.

  5. The S.W.A.T. team's performance was an embarrassment, I'd feel luckier trying to grab a weapon from one of the police and using it than trusting them to take out the perpetrator!
