Pearce Snowboarder – Kevin Pearce

One of the friendly rivals of Shaun White is Kevin Pearce the snowboarder that injured himself during a half-pipe training run on 31 Dec, 2009.

The injury left the young and highly talented snowboarder with a critical buildup of dangerous fluid in his brain following a massive collision against the edge of the pipe. With his head hitting the edge first, Kevin was immediately airlifted to Salt Lake City where he was admitted in the Medical Center at the University of Utah.

Kevin Pearce was diagnosed with Tramatic Brain Injury (TBI) and his physical, psychological and emotional recovery will be long and difficult. Pearce’s speech and motor functions were profoundly affected by his injury.

We don’t know if he can still go back to being a snowboarder competitor. His snowboarding career may have died, but he still lives; hence, Kevin Pearce is still a champion.
