MDA Telethon 2009 - Jerry Lewis

The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon (NBC, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; check local stations) is the annual TV pledge drive toward the cause of muscular dystrophy research. Last year's telethon raised $65-million (U.S.), so clearly many people still watch it. No doubt the MDA Telethon stirs up nostalgia for some viewers. A Labour Day tradition since 1966, the show will be hosted, as always, by Jerry Lewis, now 83 and not in the greatest health himself. This time Jerry will have to do without the assistance of long-time co-anchor Ed McMahon (the show will include a pretaped tribute), but watch for performances from the likes of Dolly Parton, Charo, Reba McEntire and Tony Orlando. It would be the 44th telethon hosted by Jerry Lewis and for his untiring efforts for this noble cause, he doesn’t receive even a single penny. He is such a noble man. He request the American public to donate to MDA and help the needy through this organization. Every year the aid given by American people raises and last year an amount of $65 million was donated.
